Avid knitters are an opinionated bunch, and it seems like everyone has a set of needles to which they’re fiercely loyal. Spend enough time poking around in yarn shops and in knitting circles, and you’ll hear one brand name over and over pop up as a favorite: addi Turbo. addi Turbo Click by Skacel are the “gold standard” in metal style knitting needles. If you are a fan of the smooth slip of the nickel-plated knitting needle, then addi Turbo Click are worth your time.

Knitters who make a wide variety of garments and projects truly are in need of an interchangeable set. Buying set after set of individual straight and circular needles gets expensive fast. Interchangeable needles are the obvious solution to this problem. With one set, you get almost any size needle you’ll need with a circular connector of varying lengths. Skacel makes addi Turbo tips (3.5mm, 3.75mm, 4.0mm, 4.5mm, 5.0mm, 5.5mm, 6.0mm, 8.0mm, 9.0mm, and 10.0mm), with three different lengths of pliable cord (24”, 32” and 40”). There is an additional piece that acts as a connector, useful for storing stiches or attaching cords together.

The “click” comes from the innovative design that allows for assembly without the aid of any tools. Feel free to switch projects midstream and on the go. Assembly is easy; all the user needs to do is plunge the cord into the tip, twist, and release the cord for a secure lock into place. This design is apparently spring-based, and does not screw in as other interchangeable needles do. There is no need for a tightening key, and breaking it takes a pretty strong tug. We weren’t able to do it ourselves.

Do know that there is a bit of getting used to the join mechanism. Don’t give up after the first try! Just a few moments of practice, and you’ll see the wisdom of this locking mechanism. First find the cord notch and join it up to the two dots located on the needle. Insert and push hard, which will activate the spring inside. This is the source of the “click” that gives the addi Turbos their name. Give it a swift tug and if it is secure, you’re “good to go.”

For those who haven’t knitted with nickel-plated tips, it’s worth exploring why they are superior to bamboo, plastic, or wood needles. True, every knitter has their preference, but for speed and accuracy, you just can’t go wrong with nickel-plated. The addi Turbo tips are rounded enough to be safe to the touch, but accurate enough to catch your lightest fingering yarns.

Addi Turbo Click interchangeable needles are, simply put, the “Cadillac” of nickel-plated circulars. Even the case is luxurious! The circulars come in a large black padded case that gives the needles a comfortable home. As-is, the kit isn’t ideal for travel, but smaller, more portable cases can be easily found for travel purposes.

Included also in the package is a needle-sizer, which fits comfortably into the lid of the case. You’ll find that the needle sizes printed on the needles quickly rubs off, so it is a handy tool to keep nearby. Also included in the case are the clear blue plastic cords to connect the needles. These cords have a great degree of flexibility, and are soft to the touch. Three come with the set for your uses.

Why does this matter? Well, the avid knitter – the kind of person who is in the market for high-end nickel-plated interchangeable needles – is likely to start a project, only to decide another project takes precedence. With a set of addi Turbo Click interchangeable needles, this is not a problem. In other words, addi Turbo Click needles allow for maximum options when it comes to knitting projects.

The join is always of great concern to avid knitters using interchangeable needles. If you’ve touched the addi Turbo Clicks before and rejected them because you could feel the join, think again! When a user gets yarn onto the needle, the join practically disappears. Getting yarn caught on the join is definitely not a problem with these needles. That is, unless you’re using a very fine lace yarn or if you’re an exceptionally tight knitter. The join may be worth exploring more for those who have this particular concern. However, it’s our opinion that the join is not an issue for the vast majority of knitters.

Addi Turbo Click interchangeable needles are the highest quality available, which make them more expensive than their competitors. It’s important to note that there are retailers who seem to sell the needles at a vastly lower price than available at your local yarn store. While these bargain-basement prices are tempting, it is important to note that these needles do not come with a warranty. If you buy from a legitimate yarn store, Skacel will guarantee your needles for life (with receipt). The lower-priced needles do come with a “cost,” so to speak.

Interchangeable needles are a necessity once you reach a certain point in your knitting hobby. No matter what your needle preference, knitters will spend more buying individual needles than they’ll spend investing in an interchangeable kit. The addi Turbo Click brand is the superior “Cadillac” of the needle market, manufactured to high quality standards in Germany. For knitters seeking high-speed knitting with stunning accuracy and stitch uniformity, look no further than the addi Turbo Click interchangeable needles!
